How Fun! Broken Glass Jello for Valentine’s Day
Valentines is almost here… want a quick and easy v-day treat? Well, this looks like the ticket! The Food Librarian has a lovely recipe for this Broken Glass Jello. Really, no glass involved though, hehe. The Librarian Explains: Last year, I posted 5-layer Valentine’s Jello and it was very popular. But what happens if you want an even easier gelatin treat (or you don’t have a level re…
Entertaining: Bourbon Glazed Wings!
Planning a party? Need some munchies? I saw these at Patricia‘s other website, Brownies for Dinner, and had to share them here, too! These look delicious as a party appetizer… Patricia says: I’ve tried making the classic hot wings in the past using a couple of different recipes and I’ll be honest, I’d rather order them from someplace because the ROI (return on investment) for the amount o…
Valentine’s Day Cupcakes by Hello Naomi
I had to share this great detailed tutorial on making fondant topped Valentines Day cupcakes, by the super-fabulous Hello Naomi (aka Naomi Henderson). You’ve probably seen pictures of her cool pacman cupcakes, robot cupcakes, and other fun designs around the web, she’s very clever with her designs and execution. This is a great step-by-step to decorate some lovely cupcakes for valentin…
Roasted Kale
This is a healthy, relatively quick way to cook kale. The kale ends up crispy and even your picky non-greens eaters may give these a try. Preheat oven to 400F Kale (2-3 bunches – I used 3 in these pictures) Salt/Pepper/Olive Oil/Minced Garlic/(optional) Cumin Wash your Kale, then trim out the center stem. Rip into smaller pieces. Drizzle with olive oil, add salt & pepper, and a heaping teaspoon…

Positively Decadent: Fondant Au Chocolat
Our spotlight this Valentines falls to a decadently yummy molten lava chocolate cake, brought to us by Culinary Musings! From Dhale: Valentine’s schmalentine’s. Personally, I don’t buy it. But for all you Lovey McLoversons out there, here is a decadent dessert that’s about as melty as your heart each time you gaze into the eyes of your true love. ***Swoon*** If you knew me at all, you would conclude that I’…
Spotlight: Enfrijolitas and Roasted Cabbage
Wisdom of the Moon is a great blog that I love to link to on my arts/crafts blog, and she does great recipes as well. I love this post which not only covers the main dish “Enfrijolitas”, some special ingredient techniques for chipotles in adobo.. and a quite yummy (I’ve tried it myself!) recipe for the side of Roast Cabbage (which I now use as a template for all my roasted veggies when they ne…
Spotlight: White Bean & Arugula Dip
One of the best things about doing Foodwhirl is discovering new blogs with new recipe ideas. I love the idea of doing spicy arugula in a bean dip.. Thanks to reader Elizabeth at the Manhattan [food] Project for sharing with us! “The Big Game” has come and gone, the football season is by most definitions over, and many, many avocado pits and skins now lie in trash cans, the only reminders that Super Bowl Sunday…
Food ideas for a Happy Mardi Gras!
It’s Fat Tuesday, and don’t we all wish we were in New Orleans eating crawfish and gumbo? Well, I’m not, but I can still eat some yummy New Orleans food, right? Here on Foodwhirl, we’ve got a few tasty picks for you: Let the good times roll with Shrimp Creole! from Rawls You say pray-leen, I say praw-leen by Niki Jambalaya, Crawfish Pie and File Gumbo by Niki Here’s some more i…
Ginger & White Chocolate Granola Bars
My husband and son eat a granola bar for breakfast almost daily, and while I’m always stocked on the store bought ones, sometimes I like to make them from scratch. It’s an easy process — very kid-helping-friendly, too. And it takes an hour at most from start to finish (including 25 minutes bake time) The variations on these are endless. I actually made 3 different flavors in this batch, 1…
