Every time I check out Waffleizer (the blog dedicated to answering the question of Will It Waffle?) I giggle a little bit. And that’s a good thing in this world of so many oh so serious food blogs. Go check it out. I couldn’t decide what to feature today, so I’m breaking my unwritten rule and featuring 2 recipes! French Toast Waffles, because I’m totally trying that next weekend. And Waffled Soft Pretzels because.. well, they just look really cool! See a little clip from both posts below:
Stresscake came over while I was making these pretzels. We chatted while she skimmed The Dumpling: A Seasonal Guide.
I’ve made soft pretzels before, but always from a different recipe each time. I never settled on one I liked.
Now I have.
This recipe (from Alton Brown via an adaptation by Stresscake with further tweaking by me) is versatile. Not only does it produce terrific waffled soft pretzels, it can also make great waffled preztel rolls for sandwiches.
I suppose you could also bake the dough in the oven like a normal person but, as a friend pointed out, the tagline for this blog is not “Will it stove?”
Wait… I hate to sound ignorant, but are you telling me that “The Joy of Cooking,” has a french toast waffle recipe? Or do you mean a french toast recipe that you waffled? I hope it’s the latter, otherwise I’m feeling like I really missed the boat for years.
In any event, waffled french toast was about 75% of the inspiration for this blog. I came across it this past summer on some blog or another. [To give credit where credit is due, it was here.]
Thanks for the note.
We spotlighted Waffleizer before in our very first spotlight: Spotlight: S’moreffles!
