I needed something fancy to decorate the equally fancy chocolate pie I was making for Valentine’s day. I really like the look of a mound of chocolate curls haphazardly sprinkled over the top of a dessert, so I gathered my ingredients and quickly threw some together.
Ingredients
2 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1 teaspoon vegetable shortening (I have done this with organic, non-hydrogenated shortening before, and it worked just as well. I was just out of the good stuff, and I didn’t feel like getting out in the snow.)
- Melt 2 oz. semi-sweet chocolate and 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening together in the microwave (approx. 45 seconds on high).
- Pour melted chocolate/shortening mixture into a glass pan and put in freezer until it sets up. Take a knife or offset spatula and scrape it along the hardened chocolate to form curls.
- Refrigerate curls until you’re ready to use them.
- Sprinkle haphazardly atop the dessert of your choice. Enjoy!
