Flavored Lentils (Daal)

This is for people with an appetite for non spicy yet flavored food. Vegetarian Recipe. The picture provided is copied from the internet, the cooked lentils look similar to the lentils in the picture.

Special Instructions: Serves 6 to 8 people.

Ingredients:
1 cup or 8 oz lentils
1 medium sized onion
1 heaped tablespoon of garlic paste
½ teaspoon salt (or the quantity that suits your taste)
½ tablespoon turmeric
½ tablespoon dry ground coriander
½ teaspoon red chili powder
½ cumber (optional) – cut the two ends of the vegetable leave the skin on.

Instructions:

Tip: Whilst cooking lentils make sure that the lentils and all its ingredients are covered well in water. The amount of water should just be enough to cover up the lentils and all its ingredients.

Procedure:
Soak lentils in water for atleast half an hour.
Wash thoroughly.
Add onion, garlic paste, salt, turmeric, coriander and red chili powder.
Cook on medium flame for twenty minutes.
You must stir the lentils while they are cooking atleast after every five minutes or at frequent intervals.
After twenty minutes when the lentils are done, add cucumber and blend, you need not cook the cucumber it just requires blending.
Now simmer the lentils on very low flame for less than three minutes.
Flavoured lentils are ready to be served.

Note: you can substitute cucumber with half a bunch fresh coriander that too brings excellent flavor to the lentils.

If you are out of dry ground coriander you should follow the same recipe without the mentioned ingredient, after the lentils are cooked, heat ¾ tablespoon of butter preferably salted, roast one leveled tablespoon of ground cumin seed powder for less than 30 seconds, add that to the cooked lentils and then blend, continue to simmer to three minutes before serving the lentils.
