How to Chop an Onion
This is one of those technique that seams obvious in retrospect, but never occurred to me until someone showed me. So I figured there might be some others out there who could benefit from it!
This is a great technique to use to get nice, even squares of chopped onion. See the descriptions below each picture for instructions.
- Slice the top end off of your onion.
- Peel off the papery outsides.
- Leave the bottom intact. Slice the onion in half, slicing through the bottom.
- Start with your first half. Without slicing through the bottom, slice the onion as shown.
- Now, starting furthest from the bottom, slice in the other direction.
- Discard the bottom, and revel in all the pretty little cubes. Repeat with other half.
