Editor’s Note: this was originally published for last year, but I thought it would be fun to see again!

For the last few years, the hubby and I have spent Valentine’s Day with our good friends Grieg and Dennis for dinner and a movie.  This year, Grieg came up with the idea to make your own chocolate hearts for dessert using melted chocolate morsals and a whole sampling of toppings from which to choose.  We decorated our hearts before dinner, and our creations were placed in the refrigerator  for a few hours, and eaten while we watched a movie – Zombieland.   We are the type that believe nothing says I love you more than chocolate and brain sucking zombies (great movie by the way – highly highly recommend!)

Chocolate, toppings, and pictures are all courtesy of Grieg Wehr, of Grieg Wehr Photography

  1. Melt chocolate morsels in double boiler, or microwave.  One 12ounce bag easily made six large hearts
  2. Cool melted chocolate
  3. Make desired shape on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  For a heart, we used a piping bag (or plastic bag with corner cut out or even wrapped paper) to squeeze out two dollops of chocolate.  Back of spoon was used to make heart-shapes.
  4. Decorate!  Top with extra melted chocolate if desired.  Ideas for toppings include:  nuts, crumbled oreos, heath bar, whoppers, red-hot candies, M&M’s, raisins
  5. Refrigerate until firm.
  6. EAT!

OOOOO! That looks positively delish! Not sure I’ll get to it today, but I may very well let my kids help me for a special movie night this week.
