Great appetizer ideas using Fried Green Tomatoes

Another yummy food find from Perry’s Plate… Fried green tomatoes presented in two different ways… both of which would make fabulous appetizers for your next dinner party!  Fried Green Tomatoes on Polenta Rounds with Bacon, Peppers, and OnionsFried Green Tomatoes with Caramelized Onion.

If you’ve never had Fried Green Tomatoes, you really should give them a try. They taste nothing like regular tomatoes… They are great on salads, or as a side dish, too!  I think I mentioned the other day that they would be great on Black Bean Cakes.  So, give ’em a try!

Says Natalie, after discovering a garden tragedy with her tomato plants:

“My first thought was fried green tomatoes. Seriously, what else can you do with these? A lot, apparently, after googling for recipes. I was curious about fried green tomatoes, so I went ahead and made them. Good thing because they were much better than I imagined.

Biting into a green tomato isn’t a very pleasant experience. Once they’re cooked, though, they take on a bright, tangy flavor that I thought would go well with the sweetness of caramelized onions. I’m so glad I thought to pair these two together because it was an absolutely delicious combination. Steve even asked me, “are you gonna post this?” Which means he really thinks I should.”
